AspenLog.com is located in Conifer, Colorado, a town nestled amid magnificent stands of quaking Aspen, blue spruce, pine and fir trees. Although both log cabins and a few modern homes dot the mountain landscape, the town remains rustic and abundant wildlife including deer, elk, foxes and rabbits live undisturbed in nearby forests.
Conifer developed in the late 1800s when roadways cut into the Rocky Mountain foothills opened the area to those searching for adventure and fortune.
In the proud tradition of the early Conifer settlers, the founders of AspenLog.com sought their fortune in the small Rocky Mountain community. And, like many other great American ideas, AspenLog.com was born out of the recognition of a need and the corresponding way to meet it.
It all began in early 2000, when founder Barry Eckhardt set out to buy log beds for their four children. He hoped to find furniture of the quality they remembered from their own childhood. Instead, he was stunned at what he found. In the rare store carrying rustic log furniture, they encountered shoddy, poor quality log furniture construction offered at prices you might expect to pay for the finest furniture. Of equal concern, much of the Colorado retail store furniture was built in China using poor quality weaker woods that had little chance of surviving the first owner, much less become a family heirloom like the Eckhardts hoped.
After much discussion Barry and two longtime friends, Randy Zwingler and John Winn they formed AspenLog.com and began representing high quality artisans who made high quality log furniture; however, didn’t know how to get their product to market. From the start, the plan was to:
- Keep overhead costs low so they could pass the savings on to the customer.
- Offer strictly high quality rustic furniture and décor. Only select high grade woods could be used. Artisans crafting the furniture must comply with the highest standards of workmanship and commitment to delivering beautiful, heirloom-quality pieces worthy to be passed down for generations.
- Import nothing — zip, nada —from China. Their quality and woods are just not up to the standards our customers expect.
- Stand behind every piece of furniture offered — period. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
As the years passed and our reputation and customers grew, we began to expand the furniture and décor pieces offered as well. Today, in addition to the aspen pieces built by Colorado artisans, we offer the works of a few carefully chosen rustic furniture makers from elsewhere in the U.S. and Canada. Each craftsperson must be fully committed to our standards of quality and service.
