Q. Will I have to assemble the furniture?
A. Only beds require assembly. All other pieces — dressers, nightstands, bureaus, etc. — arrive ready to use immediately. Two people can assemble a bed in about 20 minutes, using an electric socket wrench and the hardware that’s provided. One person holds the bed, and one uses the tool. In the case of bunk beds, allow 45 minutes for three people to assemble the furniture.
There is one exception to the above explanation. Pieces crafted of milled white cedar do require assembly. All hardware is provided and you should allow 15 minutes to an hour to assemble your furniture. Additional sanding may also be required to achieve the look you want.
Q. What tools are required to attach the side rides to the headboard and footboard?
A. Because all holes are predrilled and all hardware provided, the only tool required is a socket wrench, either hand-powered or electric.
Q. What kind of polish should I use on my furniture?
A. Your rustic furniture will have one of two different finishes: beeswax or polyurethane and each should be treated differently.
Beeswax finish: Every one to two years, depending on the dryness of the climate, apply a fresh coat of beeswax to keep your heirloom furniture looking like new.
Polyurethane finish: In an inconspicuous area of your furniture piece, apply your regular household furniture polish (lemon oil, Pledge®, Endust®, etc.) as a test. If you are pleased with the results, you can use the polish on the entire furniture piece.
Milled white cedar: You can apply any commercially available stain you wish to this furniture. Make sure to choose a stain that is suited to your plan to use the furniture either indoors or outdoors.
Q. Where do you harvest your logs?
A. All aspen used in our furniture is harvested in the Colorado Rocky Mountains from dead-standing trees. Red cedar, which is considered a nuisance plant, is harvested in Oklahoma. White cedar comes from the Northern Minnesota and Southern Canada. AspenLog.com has a strong commitment to the environment and to the preservation of our native forests. For this reason, we undertake an aggressive replanting program that replaces any trees taken from the forests.
Q. How long can I expect my rustic log furniture to last?
A. Furniture you purchase through AspenLog.com is made to last for generations. It is an heirloom to be lovingly used by you, your children and grandchildren for decades to come. While aspen furniture should never be used outdoors, other woods can be exposed to the outdoors, however such exposure will adversely impact the furniture’s durability and longevity.
Q. I’ve seen rustic furniture for a lower price. What’s the difference?
A. AspenLog.com keeps our overhead as low as possible in order to keep our prices affordable while still providing top quality, durable log furniture made of prime wood from American forests. That being said, we know there are less expensive furniture sellers in the marketplace. Typically, these merchants sell goods made in China of inferior woods. The merchandise looks good in photographs, but on closer inspection when it arrives at your home, it is always a disappointment. A bargain is a bargain only if you like what you purchase. We guarantee your money is well spent when you buy from AspenLog.com because our furniture is 100% American made.
Q. My barn wood furniture has cracks and nails in it. Is this right?
A. The beauty of barn wood furniture is in its unique and weathered look, acquired by withstanding snowstorms, winds and thunderstorms through the years. Made from reclaimed wood from timeworn structures in the Rocky Mountain region, barn wood furniture bears the cracks, old nails, bolt holes and saw marks of the original structure. The nuances of each piece give it character and are something to be enjoyed and cherished.
Q. Is there any way I can see the wood types before I buy?
A. AspenLog.com will send you a kit containing a sample of aspen, red cedar, rustic white cedar and hickory for just $25. With your kit, you will also receive a $50 discount coupon to apply to your order of $1000 or more. It’s a great way to make an informed decision and save money too.
