About Red Cedar

• It is a hard wood.
• It is a wood that resists insects (no worries about termites).
• The red cedar is harvested in Oklahoma. 
• Red Cedar gets some of its character from worms that burrow between the bark and the wood that leave tracks, though not all pieces of wood will have them.
• Red Cedar displays a lot more knots than aspen.
• Unlike Aspen, Red Cedar does not have antler rub marks.
• The heart of red cedar is red; the outside wood is blond which mellows to a warm gold as the furniture ages.

Regarding our Sierra Series Red Cedar Collection:

• The bark is taken off but it is not milled smooth; the knots are left for an elegant, rustic look.
• Finished with 2 coats of a water-based satin lacquer that contains a water-based dulling agent; the sheen is a little less than a semi gloss.  The finish is not real shiny.
• Just like any fine furniture coasters and placements should be used for beverages.
• Table and bench tops are solid planks of red cedar.  The middle will be red with 2 strips of blonde on the outside.
• The legs of the tables and chairs are made out of younger red cedar tree trunks – blonde in color.
• The tops of the dressers and chest of drawers are made of red cedar veneer (1/8” thick) adhered to plywood, wrapped with young red cedars.
• The drawer fronts are solid cedar in either the half log or flat draw fronts. The sides and backs of the drawers are made of pine.  Drawers are nailed together.
